Total Recall Line Level Audio Mixer – RSA-2A1
The Total Recall Line Level Audio Mixer – RSA-2A1 is used in certain applications to combine audio from two line level sources, such as remote controlled 2-way radio circuits, into a single audio output. Normally, this mixed audio output would be connected to the input of a logging recorder so that both sources can be recorded on a single recording channel.
It provides balanced line-inputs, transformer isolation, capacitive coupling, and RF bypass. The high impedance input circuits permit connection to balanced and unbalanced audio sources, with minimal loading. Each channel has an independent audio level adjustment. It is powered by an external 117 volt AC power adapter with 5 volts DC, 1000 ma output. 3″L x 2″W x 1″H.
Installation
The input cables (normally supplied with six foot telephone style cables terminated in modular RJ-11 plugs) should be connected to the source of audio to be monitored. If the modular plug is not used, connect the red wire in the cable to one side of the circuit and the green wire to the other side of the circuit. Polarity is not important.
Connect a cable from the audio output jack to the audio input of your recording equipment. The audio is on the center two RJ-22 jack connections. An output cable is not supplied with the RSA-2A1. With Total Recall and TeclCorder Voice Loggers this cable would plug into one of the RJ-11 jacks on the back of the recorder.
There are two small screwdriver adjustable level controls accessible through holes in the case of your RSA-2A1, one for each audio source. Adjust counter-clockwise to increase, clockwise to decrease the output level as needed.
If the coupler was purchased as part of a custom wired recording system, the input and/or output cable terminations may have been changed to match your specific application.
Notes
If you are using the RSA-2A1 with voltage controlled telephone circuits it will not pass the DC voltages to your recorder. It was designed for use with two-way radio circuits where receive and transmit audio are on independent radio loops. For automatic recording, your recorder must be set for voice activated recording.
Federal law 90-351 title 18, section 2511, sub section 2D, requires that at least one participant in a recorded conversation be informed of the recording. Check your state and local regulations for further guidelines.
The RSA-2A1 is warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. Damage to products resulting from physical abuse or electrical misuse voids this warranty. Out of warranty units will be repaired for a nominal handling charge plus the cost of parts and transportation. If the unit requires service, disconnect and return to the factory or place of purchase for repair.
